Acadian Basketball Association

What is the Acadian Basketball Association? The Acadian Basketball Association (ABA) was formed to promote competitive basketball through the Eastern Maine Basketball League (EMBBL) (referred to as Season One) and traditional travel basketball season (referred to as Season Two). The Association was founded on the principles of having open, fair, and inclusive tryouts for our teams, and placing those teams in competitive basketball games and tournaments throughout the State.

The intent of the ABA is never to interfere with local Junior High Athletics on the Island or in Trenton. Coaches are held accountable for practices that interfere with the Junior High practice schedule. Kids should never be forced to choose between their Junior High (Town) teams and the ABA.

Season One:
Season One begins the mid to late October with try-outs and practices to prepare kids for the EMBBL basketball season. The EMBBL is a League that plays approximately a 10-game schedule, all on the weekends, 5 home games and 5 away games. The home games can be played wherever the coach can find gym time on the Island or in Trenton. Play begins in mid November and culminates in a tournament in late December/early January. Coaches for the ABA's teams are selected by the Board of the ABA for this season. The ABA will have an A and a B team for both girls and boys (four teams) participating in Season One. Girls and Boys from the 5th-6th grade and 7th-8th grade levels are welcome to try-out for either for the A or B team.

Season Two:
Season Two begins after Season One concludes. This season is the traditional travel season on the Island and in Trenton. This season also begins with a try-out, as there may be kids who did not play Season One in the ABA, but played Junior High basketball, and would like to try-out for the ABA's travel teams. Teams are picked and play begins with various travel tournaments around Eastern Maine. Two more common examples of travel tournaments are the Great Harbor House Shootout and the Sherriff's Cup. Season Two begins mid January and concludes around the first of April. Coaches for the ABA's teams are selected by the Board of the ABA for this season. The ABA will have an A and a B team for both girls and boys (four teams) participating in Season Two. Girls and Boys from the 5th-6th grade and 7th-8th grade levels are welcome to try-out for either for the A or B team.
